There is no denying that swimming pools are lots of fun, but they can also be dangerous places too. So many people install custom pools in their gardens and never think about making them safe. Because vanishing edge pools and the like are so attractive, it often just does not occur to owners that they need to take precautions to secure their pools, but they really should not neglect to do so.
Whether dealing with above ground or inground swimming pools, there are a number of safety precautions which need to be taken.
Cover or Fence
One of the simplest, and most effective, things that you can do to ensure your pool is secure, is either fit it with a cover or fence which should be secured when the pool is not in use. This will ensure that young children are not able to fall into the pool, should they wander out into the yard alone. Covers can be bought in a range of sizes, but if you have a custom pool, you may also need to have a custom cover made.
Alarms
It is possible to install alarms on your pool fence and on the door leading out to the pool. So, should your child try to gain access to the pool, you will immediately be alerted to the fact.
Drain Covers
You should also ensure that you have the appropriate sized drain covers fitted to your pool and that they are always secured.
Learn CPR
Even if you do everything you possibly can to ensure your pool is safe, it is still a good idea to learn CPR and first aid, so that you can act quickly in the unlikely event that an accident should happen. It is also a good idea to teach children about the dangers of the pool, so they are less likely to get into difficulty.
